My computer came with a Vista installation disc that lets me repair Windows (and it works). If you don't have such a CD/ DVD, try pressing the F8 key BEFORE the Windows logo appears. You should see a menu appear with the "repair " option. |

If you know what files are missing. Explore the disk, locate the file then copy it to your computer. If your not sure what files are missing/ corrupt or there's to many then I'm afraid your done for. |

Honestly you may not have a choice in the matter. Depending on what version of the disk you have (the OEM works most of the time, the Full Retail package only about a third of the time), and whether or not you've gone to Service Pack 1...you may or may not have the option to do a repair installation. If you want to recover the system without doing a fresh install, you might want to consider Windows 7 upgrade which might (70% of the time) upgrade to Win7 and keep everything as it should be. Otherwise, you can try this address for some tips...vistax64.com/ tutorials/ 88236-repair-install-vista.html However if you can't, you'll just have to bite the bullet and do a fresh install. This is one of the reasons Vista got panned so bad. They took out the nice handy "oops Windows got shagged up good and proper, better get the repair install going " feature and annoyed the entire IT community. |
