(Posted by: B.G on 2010-02-08 22:32:18)
Hi guys, I am just wondering whether to buy MAC or MICROSOFT...? The reason why I would want a Mac is that people say they get less viruses than windows? and they look fancy :D ps: never used Macs before... And microsoft which I have been using all my life. Easy to use, but bored.. Which would you recommend??? or ratings? lol |

Windows/ PC Compatible with more programs/ games. Plus, PCs are easily upgradeable hardware wise. Of course you can always run Windows on a Mac but I don't see the point in buying an overpriced Mac and running Windows on it. Macs just appeal to the casual user because they look slick and shiny. Truth is I can build a faster PC for less money than I would buy a Mac for. And don't be fooled, Mac OS X can get viruses as well, albeit alot more rarely. |

I've never had a mac, always had Microsoft, but some people i know have Macs, and they say they are really fast, they rarely get viruses or none, and there's a lot more things to do on it than a Microsoft. So personally, i would recommend getting a Mac. |

Linux doest get virues either, then just get xpgnome to make your computer look like windows. im more familar with windows too, but macs definatley look cooler are expensive which may mean something. i think macs are better, judging by the prices. |

There's no doubt that Macs are good computers, but in my opinion they are a bit overrated. I prefer my PC. I just bought a brand new HP and it's a dream. Reasons I like PCs better: I like to play Free Cell, Spider Solitaire, etc and they all come on most PCs but not on Macs. The majority of software is still made predominantly for PCs, and I have many friends with Macs that often have problems printing, emailing, turning in assignments on campus because they have compatibility problems. In my personal experience, support for PCs is easier to find than for Macs. There are Best Buys and similar stores that can help you everywhere, and often times you have to take your Mac to an Apple store which aren't as common. Lastly, PCs are MUCH more affordable. As I said, Macs are good computers but I still believe a PC is the better choice. Just make sure you read reviews for whichever PC you are interested in buying beforehand, and I recommend HP |

If you're bored, it's because you've been using XP since 2002.... try 7.... see if you like it... if not. spend double the amount of money for an equally equipped mac that uses the same damned hardware anyway... |

Apple/ Mac is not absolutely guaranteed to be a better experience than a Windows PC. Yes, it's true that Macs have reports of better build quality, but in all honesty...you're paying for the name, and you're paying way too much. With Windows 7 now, PCs are more reliable and more stable than they have been before. Plus, for what you pay for a Mac, you're losing processing power. Sure, you can get specs that rival current PCs, but you're also going to pay 2-3 times what you'd get in a PC. It's just not worth it. And looking fancy does not mean it's a better computer. Sometimes the name goes on before the junk goes in. (I'm not saying Apple is junk, but don't let it's pretty looks fool you.) As for viruses, it's true that Macs aren't as vulnerable as PCs, but it's not because of build quality (or lack thereof), it's because Macs are used more for business and work like on movies, and not that many are home computers, therefore they're not as prevalent and hackers aren't as interested in writing malicious code for, or cracking a Mac. And if you find yourself bored with Microsoft, Apple won't do much for you either. There's only so much you can do with a computer (no matter who makes it) and once you've done it all, it stops being a thrill. Plus if you're at the point that you're bored with computing...it might be time to take a break from it. And boredom is not a good reason to break the bank, especially when you'll have buyer's remorse down the road. When a laptop costs about the same price as a down payment for a car, you've overspent and needlessly so. |

PC (Microsoft Windows) Pros~ Lots of software available for them cheaper than macs come from lots of manufactures so if you don't like one brand of hardware, you can choose other brands unlike Macs, because Apple is the only manufacturer of macs Pc Cons~ Prone to viruses (like 1,000,000 made everyday..) too many versions lots of error codes etc etc Mac Pros~ Look nice doesn't get as many viruses (but there still are, so don't think your invincible on it) freezes and crashes less than pcs have good customer support Mac Cons~ EXPENSIVE $$$ not much software available for it harder to use, if you have never used one before |

I've owned and worked with MAC and PC systems. Which one is the best? The simple answer is that it depends on what you want from your operating system. Mac is better if you're looking for higher overall quality components. I'm sure you've heard of the expression that "you get what you pay for. " With Mac systems you certainly do. The extra $300-$500 you pay for these systems goes into higher quality components which, in turn creates a laptop of higher quality laptop that lasts longer. You won't get viruses or spyware with MACs since PC's are much more prevalent. Some say that Mac systems are easier to use. PC is better if you're looking for a low cost system with across the board functionality. You can more easily find software and games that run on PC vs MAC. Windows 7 is about as easy to use as the Mac OS. Keep in mind that you'll need to spend $30-$50 for good virus protection programs on your PC. Avast antivirus is free "good enough " antivirus software. avast.com/ index Good luck! Jeremy Ashburn buyapc.org/ - Laptop & Desktop recommendations |
