Are you using Windows XP? Go to Control Panel - > Add/ Remove programs. Then on the left side click on Add/ Remove windows components. Uncheck windows messenger and hit next. If Messenger still pops up after that go to start - > run and type "cmd " without the quotes. In the commnad prompt type this command and hit enter. RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove that will remove it 100%. |

The Second option you have is if you don't want to delete windows messenger completely than 1. Click on start button.- > Click on All Programs - > Startup you can see the icon of windows messanger there, just right click, delete it, that's all, than it will not come in startup and will now annoy you. In startup you can put things which you want to run when windows os starts. Let me know if you have other question. |

Hmm... some answers come close but I think the main reason is because it's set to open when you log in and you can disable it by opening Messenger and changing the setting. I'm using XP so I don't know if your version of Messenger will be the same as mine but try this: 1. Go to Start, then All Programs, then Windows Messenger. 2. Look for menus across the top: Files, Actions, Tools, Help. If you can't see them, try pressing the Alt key on your keyboard and they should show up. 3. Click on Tools and then Options and then the Preferences tab. 4. Uncheck the option which says "run Windows Messenger when Windows starts " 5. Click on OK and close Messenger. NOTE: You may need to sign into Messenger to get at these features. I've had to sign in on some computers but not on this one. Here are pages that might help, if these instructions I gave you don't: mydigitallife.info/ 2009/ 12/ 11/ how-to-disable-and-stop-windows-live-messenger-from-loading-at-startup-automatically-auto-start/ maximumpcguides.com/ windows-7/ disable-windows-messenger/ instructables.com/ id/ How-to-stop-Windows-Live-Messenger-from-popping-up/ |

Using Pop-up Blocker When you install SP2, Pop-up Blocker is turned on in Internet Explorer and set to the medium setting, which means it will block most automatic pop-ups. The default settings for the pop-up blocker allow you to see pop-ups that are opened when you click a link or button on a Web site. Pop-up Blocker will also play a sound and show the Information Bar when a pop-up is blocked. You can adjust these settings so that Pop-up Blocker works the way you want it to. To change Pop-up Blocker settings 1.Open Internet Explorer. 2.On the Tools menu, point to Pop-up Blocker, and then click Pop-up Blocker Settings.
