Question: How to i know if key_buffer_size is set too high in mysql?

(Posted by: m_lollis on 2010-03-05 15:06:31)

I am trying to optimize mysql and I am changing only one variable at a time in my.cnf. I am starting with key_buffer_size. Is there a certain formula that I should set it at? How do I know if it is too high. I am running a 1GB server.

There is a script called tuning-primer.sh that will analyze your MySQL configuration for you and recommend changes. Link: day32.com/ MySQL/ I ran this on my server and followed its instructions and it reduced the amount of CPU that MySQL was using by half! Let your MySQL run for 2 days before running the script, then run and follow the recommendations.
