(Posted by: Av625e on 2010-03-08 18:15:10)
So i have a wireless home network right now. I moved to a new place so i have this new modem hooked up to my router. In my old one i was able to unplug the PC from the router and use the built in wireless. Now it seems if i do that the whole internet shuts down then i have to plug it back in and reset everything. is there a way to prevent that? No, i mean that i already have a wireless network setup, but im saying is that the living room computer is connected to the router, now if i disconnect this cable the laptop, xbox 360, etc lose connection |

Are you saying that when you disconnect one client from the router the router crashes? Or are you saying that you want to create a wireless network? If this is the case, just use WiFi instead of Ethernet like you used to do in your previous residence. You do not need to be connected to the router via Ethernet if you use WiFi. If, however, you're saying that when you disconnect this client from the router by unplugging the Ethernet connection it causes the router to crash, try updating the firmware or replacing it with DD-WRT or Tomato. If updating the firmware doesn't solve the problem, you may simply have a dying router and would want to replace it. In any case, this is certainly an odd issue and indicates a problem with either the router hardware or firmware. |
